Jerrill Schrock - His Story
"Building is a rich heritage of our family."
Jerrill Schrock, founder of Schrock Construction, grew up helping in his father's building business during summer vacations. After graduating from Ozark Mennonite School in south west Missouri, he began working full time with Jamco Builders in Seymour, MO, a company that specializes in horse barns, indoor riding arenas, churches, and retail stores. As Contractor’s assistant, his job description was project management, building design, and sales. He says, "For me, an outdoors person, being in the office and taking on these responsibilities constituted a huge learning curve. Today I view that time in the office as a business internship of incredible value in my learning experience!"
Later on his older brother, Ron, approached him about helping him as an electrician. Ron's company was experiencing a growth spurt and Jerrill was interested in learning more about the mechanical side of construction. "From Ron, I learned the difference between a good wiring job and one that could pass code: how to make up a good electrical panel, a good conduit job, connections that wouldn’t corrode with time, the importance of proper grounding, and many other important electrical concepts. This hands-on experience in the mechanical field has been an invaluable asset to our company."
At the age of 22, Jerrill met Alisa Yoder from Rustburg, VA for the first time. "A year later I succeeded in changing her last name to mine and bringing her to MO!" Soon after their marriage, Jerrill & Alisa began thinking seriously of starting their own building company. Alisa’s Grandfather, Milton Hostedler, was a well-known contractor in the Rustburg, VA area, so it was a natural for her to be on board in thinking of starting their company. "As we were feeling our way into the Residential market, we were blessed to pick up several very nice addition and remodel projects"… Schrock Homes was on the map!
In 1998 Jerrill was asked by his church organization if he would be willing to take the position as director in a Romanian orphanage that was in the planning. The commitment period was four years if they consented. It didn’t take them long to decide. They fulfilled their existing contracts, referred their customers to other family members in the same field, and 5 months later found themselves across the world in a very different kind of occupation: bringing health and security to unwanted little ones. They fulfilled that commitment in 2003 and this time, Jerrill says, "Alisa brought me to VA." Their experience in Romania shaped their lives in many ways and continues to be part of their present.
In 2003 Jerrill & Alisa founded Schrock Construction in Rustburg, VA. Since then they've been blessed with many good clients in the Lynchburg area. They've designed and built house additions, shops, horse barns, and fine custom homes.
SCI is well aware that technologies are constantly changing in the building industry. Their commitment to your satisfaction will make your home more than just another address on the block. It’ll be Schrock built!
